is bracing himself for his ex-husband's bombshell book, according to reports.

The Chatty Man star, 48, was in a relationship with Paul Drayton for 13 years until the couple split in 2022 following the party planner's well-documented battle with alcoholism. Paul narrowly escaped jail after reversing into a police car with an alcohol test reading "off the scale", a court was told in 2022 - with Alan later citing Paul's drinking as the 'final straw' in their rocky relationship.

Now, the Spexy Beast star is said to be anxiously awaiting the arrival of Paul's book, with a showbiz insider saying: "Alan knows that Paul is writing a book and obviously their relationship – the good, the bad and the ugly – will form a large part of the story."

They continued in the : "They were together for 13 years and had some fabulous times together as well as the well-documented problems. Paul is a very honest man and will give readers a warts and all picture of his life and won’t gloss over difficult subjects."

Last week, Paul, who previously admitted to punching himself in the eye following a drunken binge, marked three years since he was arrested for drink-driving by sharing a clip of the moment he was taken away by police.

Taking to to share footage of the moment, he penned a lengthy caption, describing the arrest as "the lowest period of his life". He wrote: "Three years ago today I was arrested handcuffed and taken to Crawley police station. This is short edited clip of that day. (I still get anxiety watching this).

"What followed was a catalogue of events that was nothing short of a nightmare! The officer said I was off my face and that I had reversed my car into his. Both were untrue! I was a broken man on that day! It's taking a lot for me to rebuild myself and a huge journey of self discovery whilst not using alcohol to cope or self medicate as I had done in the past."

Referencing his book, he said: "I am currently writing my memoirs, which may be titled Take It On The Chin, where you will read the full story along with many other stories of my eventful and colourful life! Thank you all for your continuing love and support! It means the !!'

Alan spoke candidly about Paul's addiction after they split, telling: "It's horrible when you realise how bad it's got. You're watching someone kill themselves. I wanted to leave him. It's the lies that get you – the, 'Oh I'll never drink again'. And then you go out, realise you've forgotten your car keys, go back and… [Paul would be drinking.]

"I couldn't cope, because when I left the house, I didn't know if he was going to have a fall, or put something on the hob and fall asleep. He was grey and shuffling around. It was like watching someone die."

The Mirror has contacted Alan's reps for comment on this article.
