Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti remained tight-lipped when asked about potential transfer dealings, as rumors continue to swirl around Liverpool's vice-captain potentially moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Speculation has been rife about the future of the Anfield star, whose contract is due to run out at the end of this season. It's still unclear whether he'll sign an extension. As it stands, Alexander-Arnold could start negotiations with or any other non-English clubs in January, once he enters the final six months of his current deal.
Despite Liverpool's keenness to retain the 26-year-old, Madrid have been loosely linked with signing Alexander-Arnold in 2025, and there are even whispers they might make a move as early as January.
The injury situation at the Santiago Bernabeu, which worsened after their 4-0 victory over Osasuna in La Liga on Saturday, has fueled rumors that the club may look to bolster their defense in the New Year. Both Eder Militao (knee) and Rodrygo (muscle) were forced off in the first half, adding to the growing list of injured players.
Militao is rumoured to have picked up an ACL injury, which could sideline him for a considerable period. The severity of Rodrygo's issue is still unknown, but they're not the only ones missing in action for Madrid.
Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Thibaut Courtois are also on the treatment table. The depleted defensive options, particularly with Carvajal, Alaba, and Militao out, has sparked talks that Madrid might be eyeing a move for Alexander-Arnold.
Ancelotti opened up about the injury crisis and its impact on potential January market moves to ESPN: "We'll assess it in the coming months," he said. "Right now, there's nothing we can do. We'll evaluate what we can do in January."
Meanwhile, over at Liverpool, during their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa when Conor Bradley took his place first-half following a supposed muscle strain. There is no official word yet on how long Liverpool's vice-captain will be off the pitch.
