People have been left positively dumbfounded by a dancer’s position in a viral video and nobody can agree what direction she’s spinning.
are a fun, mind-bending craze that always seem to spark a flurry of debates - this is because how each of us processes information and visual cues is different.
In one particularly popular online video, three figurines of ballerinas are completing a pirouette - a graceful, iconic ballet move where the dancer spins while balanced on one foot, either on the ball of the foot or the toe en pointe - but they appear to be turning in different directions to one another. Text overlayed on the footage asks viewers to determine whether the middle dancer is turning to the left or right.
Popular TikTok account shared the clip to its 2.9 million followers, igniting in the comments section. People couldn’t agree on the direction of the middle dancer, with some convinced of her turning to the right and others adamant she was turning to the left, whole some thought the illusion was trickery and her direction was changing.

One person said: “The video is not consistent. it changes every second. Don't @ me!” Another theorised: “This is a Minde illusion actually. If I start looking at the left girl it starts spinning to the left and if I start looking at the right one it starts [spinning to the right].”
A third simply said: “It switched mid video.” Disagreeing, another person commented: “It's not switching!! It always turns right!!”
Someone else was convinced the centre dancer was only spinning to the right: “It’s only right idk [I don’t know] what y’all are talking about”, while another person said: “I checked and different ones are spinning opposite directions”.
But another TikTok user could only see the dancer spinning to the left and said: “It's only left what are you all yapping about [sobbing with tears emoji]”.
Somebody else commented: “I only see right…” and another person had a different interpretation: “It changes depending on which one you look at on either side but I saw it turning to the left at first”. Someone else added: “The right dancer is turning right and the left one is turning left”.
When the illusion was shared on , the poster captioned it: “This staggering illusion will blow your mind! Some see the ballerina spinning clockwise while others see her spinning anti- clockwise. How can this be?”
The comments on the popular video sharing platform were as equally inconclusive as they were on TikTok. One person said: “Interesting how the left and right models change your perception on how you view the middle one.”
Another said: “I can see them spinning both directions I HAVE THE POWER!!” While another added: “Oh my God it felt like I controlled the girl”.
