Gary Lineker makes 'surprised' admission about Arne Slot with Jurgen Klopp comparison

Gary Lineker has been left impressed by new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, who has made about as good a start to life at Anfield as anyone could have hoped for after he took over from Jurgen Klopp.

So far under Slot, Liverpool has only conceded one goal in the Champions League and one goal in the Premier League. Only Manchester City has more points in the top flight at the moment and the Reds have looked in control of most matches aside from the obvious disappointment against Nottingham Forest.

"I think we’ve talked about this before, I talked about it around a week ago," Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast. "It’s essential for Slot to get [off to] a good start, particularly after following Klopp, which is never going to be easy; it's really, really difficult.

"But I would think we’re all a little bit surprised at how smoothly the transition has been. I know they lost that surprise result against [Nottingham] Forest, but that aside, you know, an away win in the Champions League against AC Milan was excellent.

"Four wins out of five; right near the top of the league. They’d have snapped their hands off at this, his coaching staff, wouldn’t they?"

Liverpool.com says: It has definitely been a really promising start for Slot but there is a lot more work to be done. You would like to think that the game against Nottingham Forest was a wake-up call to some degree in terms of showing that kind of team can cause problems and every game needs to be taken really seriously.

Liverpool will still need to find a way to beat the next low block that turns up and sits in as Nottingham Forest did but few teams will be able to set up as effectively as that in that style. From what we have seen up to now under Slot, his side as it is will win the vast majority of the matches that it plays.
