Graham Potter lands new job after Chelsea sacking and Manchester United links

Former Chelsea head coach Graham Potter will appear on Sky Sports show Monday Night Football for the South Coast derby between AFC Bournemouth and Southampton.

Potter arrived at Chelsea in September 2022, under American owner Todd Boehly, but he had a tumultuous time, winning just 12 from his 31 matches overall, despite being backed by the American businessman. Nine new players arrived at Stamford Bridge under his watch - costing the club over £300million.

In an interview with The Telegraph, he shed light on his difficult spell at the club. He said: "I take responsibility for the results. I've never said I've ever been perfect. You live and you learn - and you are grateful for the opportunity and grateful for the experience you had there.

"It's a bit like a grieving process in a way, it gets better with time. You have to try not to beat yourself up, but you can't blame everything on someone else." Solihull-born Potter went on.

"You've got to find the right balance. It's not nice because of the high-profile nature of it.

"There's a humiliation when it doesn't go well. I was sacked after seven months of a five-year contract after being taken from Brighton, so there's also all that on a human level you have to deal with. I don't think [Chelsea] was the only opportunity I was going to get because I left Brighton in a really, really good place.

"So it was about choosing the right opportunity. And I didn't choose the wrong one, it just didn't work out."

Having been out of a job since last April, the 49-year-old admitted being ready to return to football management after rejecting the Ajax job in May and pulling out of the race to become Leicester City's new head coach over the summer. He has also been constantly linked with the job at Manchester United.

Prior to this interview with The Telegraph, Potter had largely stayed out of the public eye, but he now looks set to make an appearance as a pundit on Sky Sports. He will be in the studio for MNF prior to the 8pm kick-off, analysing the weekend's games including the clash between his former clubs Chelsea and Brighton.
