The Greek Football Federation has reportedly been in "constant contact" with UEFA, seeking to postpone the upcoming Nations League match against on Thursday night due to .

The 31-year-old England-born Greece international was found dead in his swimming pool at his home in Southern Athens on Wednesday evening. In light of this devastating event that has shaken the football world, Greek news outlet SDNA reported that the Greek FF reached out to UEFA to delay the game at Wembley.

However, UEFA is said to have rejected the appeal, indicating that the match will proceed as planned. George Baldock, a former player from Buckinghamshire, had represented Greece 12 times, qualifying through his grandmother's heritage.

UEFA has also since released a statement regarding Baldock's shock death. The organization's only mention of the game is to confirm a minute's silence will be observed.

Its statement read: “UEFA would like to send its condolences to the family of George Baldock, the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF), and Panathinaikos FC following the Greek international's sudden and untimely death.

"Following a request by the HFF, a minute's silence will be observed ahead of tonight's UEFA Nations League match between England and Greece at Wembley Stadium, with both teams wearing black armbands during the game.”

Following his untimely death, the Greek FF issued a statement expressing their deep grief: "With profound sadness and sorrow, the national team - and the Greek Football Federation - bid farewell to George Baldock."

They extended their condolences to his family and referred to themselves as his second family. His family released a touching statement confirming the sad news: "We can confirm that George has sadly passed away. As a family, we are in shock at this terrible loss. We ask please the media to respect our privacy at this time."

England, gearing up for its Nations League clash with Greece, also shared its sympathies: "We're extremely saddened by the passing of George Baldock," read an additional statement. "George Baldock was close to many of our players and he represented Greece - our opponents on Thursday night. We're thinking of George's family, friends, and teammates at club and country at this difficult time."
