Harry Redknapp confessed he took his son Jamie out of school to play football on The One Show - but let slip his wife Sandra didn't know. Footballing father and son duo Harry and Jamie Redknapp, joined hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp alongside stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Juno Temple.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham boss, along with his son, ex-Liverpool and Spurs midfielder Jamie, were on the programme to chat about their latest book A Family Obsession which focuses into the Redknapps' life in football.

The conversation soon turned to Jamie's childhood experiences with a football-obsessed dad at the helm and how it shaped their family dynamics. Jamie let slip that Harry would often sneak him out of school for football training sessions if he had a boring day of lessons.

reports how presenter Roman Kemp asked the Sky Sports pundit: "Jamie, I'm kind of wondering, growing up, your dad is a football manager and he's obsessed with football. How much was he on top of you when it came to like, school homework?".

Jamie quipped: "Not too much, to be honest, mate. He used to always find that detour instead of going to school, taking me to training with him, but it didn't do me any harm, but I wouldn't advise it so if you're watching this at home, take your kids to school."

Harry joked: "I mean, Jamie ended up not being able to read or write" prompting Jamie to laugh off the quip with a playful, "That's not 'true'".

The King of the Jungle elaborated: "We used to turn up the school gates. He said, 'Oh, Dad, I've got rubbish lessons today, can I come training with you? (I would say) 'Yeah alright', coming home at four o'clock so his mum thought he'd been to school.

Jamie added: "And put the school uniform back on! But the worst thing mum's watching this - we're giving it away!"

Host Alex Jones questioned if Harry's wife Sandra was ever aware of Jamie skipping school for football and asked: "I was gonna say I mean your wife Sandra could not been happy with that, was she?"

Harry responded: "Well she didn't really know too much. To be honest at 11, you were training at Tottenham at a very early age, and so it was always football was where he was going to end up."

These days training outside of school paid off as Jamie Redknapp went on to have a respectable football career across the 1990s and 2000s, with appearances for AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. The Sky football pundit's performances in Merseyside saw him appear 17 times for England, including at Euro 96.
