Ibrahima Konate reveals true Gary Neville feelings with six-word verdict after Sky Sports interview

Send Push

Ibrahima Konate had a bit more to say about Gary Neville after the cameras stopped rolling on his interview with Sky Sports on Saturday.

The Frenchman enjoyed another fine game as he helped Liverpool to a 2-1 win over Wolves on Saturday, although his copybook was blotted by a mistake which led to the Reds conceding an equalizer in calamitous fashion.

Nevertheless, Konate clearly thought he was set to be awarded the man of the match award when he was called in for a post-match interview with Sky Sports alongside Ryan Gravenberch, only to be left in dismay when he had to hand over the prize to his teammate.

In a hilarious interview, Konate questioned how the decision was made, asking interviewer Juliette Ferrington who made the call. When someone off camera told him it was Neville, who had been commentating on the game, the defender responded in disbelief: “Gary Neville?!” while shaking his head.

Gravenberch didn’t help his teammate’s cause when he laughed and responded by saying: “Thank you Gary!” as the pair made their way back to the changing rooms.

New behind-the-scenes footage from Molineux has now shown Konate wasn’t done there with his amusing tirade. In , the defender is seen exclaiming: “He is against me I think,” as he walks away following the interview.

Despite his insistence that he deserved the man of the match award, Konate’s own manager disagreed with him, with Arne Slot pointing out that the defender’s error leading to Wolves’ goal was likely the reason he missed out.

"Konate? Ibrahima Konate? OK. Then he maybe forgot the moment that we conceded the goal,” Slot joked when speaking to Sky Sports. “Maybe that was the reason why we conceded, he wasn't there at the moment because to say the least it was avoidable."

Liverpool.com says: Maybe next time Ibou. As well as you played, you were never getting that award after that mistake for Wolves’ goal.

And anyway, the man of the match award is quickly becoming the Ryan Gravenberch award, and even his teammates look as though they’re getting sick of him bringing the trophy back with him into the dressing room! Konate will have to produce a truly outstanding performance if he’s to wrestle it away from the midfielder this week.
