Roy Keane slams Mikel Arteta for Man City complaints in brutal Arsenal rant

Roy Keane has told Mikel Arteta to 'take his medicine' following Arsenal's clash against Manchester City. The Gunners were tantalisingly close to a stunning win at the Etihad Stadium, with goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes putting them on the brink of victory, only for a late John Stones' goal to snatch a draw.

Arsenal had been reduced to ten men after Leandro Trossard received a second yellow for time-wasting – a decision that visibly frustrated Arteta. Speaking to reporters after the match, the Spaniard held back from discussing the sending-off.

Instead, he pointed out that Jeremy Doku should have seen red for a similar infraction. Keane, having heard Arteta's remarks, lambasted the Arsenal boss on Sky Sports, insisting he should just accept the referee's call.

As quoted by the Mirror, Keane said: "Managers are coming out every week saying every decision is against them. Just come out and accept it. Deep down, he'll be satisfied with a point.

"Show a bit of class, manager of Arsenal. He probably deserved the red card, 'We reacted well and we move on'. That's the end of it. Take your medicine and move on. Show a bit of class."

This isn't the first time that Keane has ripped into Arteta with such a blunt message, having expressed similar sentiments in January 2023. The former Manchester United midfielder admitted that he would have to accept yellow cards from referees due to his fiery touchline behaviour.

He said: "Well I certainly wouldn't worry about yellow cards, it's the reds that you’ve got to worry about. But from the Arsenal point of view I think they'd be OK with it, because he’s obviously passionate and you're not in this job to be liked!

"He's there to win football matches for Arsenal and that’s what he’s doing. Listen, he's got the yellow card, he has to take his medicine, but I generally have no problem with it.

"We see other managers doing stuff that we might not always agree with but they're emotional, they’re passionate and I think that's just because he wants to win. I wouldn’t be too harsh on him."

Arteta will now be without Trossard for their next match. The Gunners are set to face League One side Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup third round before hosting struggling Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium next weekend.
