The Repair Shop fans stunned as voiceover artist makes rare appearance on camera

Fans of charming BBC daytime show The Repair Shop were stunned when a usually unseen cast member appeared on the show.

- which sees a group of antiques specialists help members of the public fix old and broken possessions that they love - has been on the air since 2017 and has run for 306 episodes and counting. While the series has made household names out of star experts including Dominic Chinea and Suzie Fletcher, the show has been narrated by a distinctive Scottish star.

Bill Paterson has described all the action shown on screen for the majority of the episodes that have aired. The 79-year-old star first began voicing the show during season one before taking time off and then returning from season five onwards - with Welsh actor Robert Pugh, 79, taking the reigns for seasons 2-4.

But on Wednesday's episode of the show, Bill himself stepped out from the recording booth to take part in the episode - leaving fans stunned as he appeared on the screen. Wearing a pair of round rimmed glasses and a layered outfit, the star looked distinguished as he featured in front of the cameras.

Taking to X, many fans shared their surprise at seeing him on screen. One wrote on X: "Wow, that's REALLY strange seeing the voice of #therepairshop on screen." Another wrote: "Seeing Bill on screen a surprise." And a further fan highlighted some of the voice artist's other work, writing: "Voice of #therepairshop also played Bruno’s dad in the 90s film of The Witches, if you’ve seen that."

Indeed, TV fans may have recently seen Bill featuring in HBO hit show House of the Dragon. The star played Lord Beesbury in season one of the Game of Thrones prequel - but met a brutal end at the hands of one of the main characters.

In the ninth episode of the first season, Lord Beesbury, who was Master of Coin on the Small Council, was one of the only people who stood up to the Green faction when they plotted to put Aegon II on the Iron Throne. When he called the rest out for treason and regicide, he had his head brutally slammed against one of the stone balls on the table by Ser Criston Cole and instantly died.

The Repair Shop was dragged into disrepute this year when star Jay Blades was accused of coercive behaviour by his wife, fitness instructor Lisa-Marie Zbozen - who he split from this year. He has denied the allegations made against him by her. Episodes featuring the star were subsequently shelved by the - with reports saying the 2025 special will be axed.

Channel 5 have shelved a documentary series Blades was making called A Country House Through Time. And have confirmed they will not be making a sequel to his recent travelogue with Dame Judi Dench, The Odd Couple. The star had presented The Repair Shop for seven years.
