UK weather forecast: Snow blast expected in just days as temperatures drop below average

Brits could be bracing for a winter chill as recent forecasts predict could hit parts of the UK as early as next week.

The forecaster suggests northern areas might see a dusting, with in line for "snow showers" and temperatures dipping below average. This follows predictions of cloudy and foggy sweeping across the nation. Central and eastern regions are meanwhile likely to witness only light snowfall.

The Met Office's outlook from October 31 to November 9 hints at the arrival of snow as we transition into November. The forecaster said: "Following the introduction of some colder air to many areas at the start of this period, with the potential for snow showers in at least northern Scotland, high pressure looks to be the dominant feature during the first part of November."

It added: "The main uncertainty is in the position and orientation of the high, which will determine whether the UK remains in a relatively cold air mass or whether somewhat milder conditions return." As we head into mid-November, it's expected that the "high pressure may relax its grip on the UK, allowing rather more unsettled conditions to become established."

This comes after a sunny spell delighted many over the weekend. But the weather is set to take a turn, with clouds and rain forecasted for Northern Ireland and western Scotland in the coming week. From Monday through Thursday, Brits can expect a blanket of clouds to cast over UK skies, with rain and drizzle possibly making an appearance "almost anywhere."

As November marches on, it looks like we might not be getting rid of those gloomy skies just yet. The Met Office has said: "There is an increasing chance that high pressure will become displaced away from the UK as we head towards mid-November. This may allow areas of low pressure, south-shifted from their more typical tracks, to bring an increased chance of rain or showers at times."

The outlook remains damp as the forecast continues: "As a result, after a relatively dry start to the month, a transition to a wetter period is possible as we head towards mid-November. However, there is a chance that high pressure may become more influential once again later in the month. Temperatures will probably be close to average for much of this period as a whole, although some colder interludes are possible."
