The Central Government has now decided to continue the supply of free fortified rice from July 2024 to December 2028 under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKAY) and other welfare schemes. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a Diwali gift to the poor people of the country by approving this.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given this information after the meeting of the Union Cabinet. Ashwini Vaishnav informed that the Union Cabinet has now approved the continuation of the supply of free fortified rice under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKAY) and other welfare schemes from July 2024 to December, 2028. The total financial impact on the government will be Rs 17,082 crore.
