The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) PCS preliminary exam was in the news this year due to low attendance. A total of 626,387 candidates applied for the exam, but only 265,364 appeared for the exam. This represents approximately 57.50% of candidates abstaining. This is the second consecutive year that attendance for the preliminary exam was less than 45%.
Exam Experience
The first shift of the exam was held from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Most students appeared to be in a cheerful mood. Candidates reported that some questions in History and Mathematics were challenging, while the Current Affairs questions were easier than last year. Some students found General Studies a bit difficult, but the language level was easy for most. Some found the paper moderate, while the General Studies questions were a bit difficult.
Candidate Mohan Singh said that the easier paper may increase their chances of success in the Mains exam this time. Meanwhile, the second shift of the CSAT paper was quite simple, and well-prepared candidates found it easier than last year.
Security arrangements increased the exam's strictness.
This year, the UP PCS Preliminary Exam was conducted in 75 districts across the state. The first shift ran from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, and the second shift ran from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. This year, the Commission has tightened security. Biometric verification, iris scanning, CCTV surveillance, and AI-based monitoring have been implemented. This has led to a large number of candidates not appearing for the exam. Previously, only over 60 percent of candidates appeared for the exam. Despite this tight security, students who appeared generally described their exam experience as satisfactory.
