• The pension is jointly shared between the Central Government and State Governments/Union Territories.

• The Central Government contributes up to ₹5,500 per month, while the state or UT must contribute a minimum of ₹500 per month.

• If a state already provides pension support, the central contribution is adjusted accordingly.

• In the unfortunate case of the artist’s death, the pension may be transferred to the surviving spouse, as per government provisions.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Veteran Artists Pension Scheme, applicants must meet the following conditions:

The applicant should be a senior artist, writer, or scholar with a notable contribution in their respective cultural or literary field.

Traditional scholars without published works but with recognized contributions may also apply.

Applicants must be at least 60 years old (except in the case of a surviving spouse applying after the death of the artist).

The applicant’s gross monthly income should not exceed ₹4,000, or ₹48,000 annually.

Beneficiaries should not already be receiving financial aid under any other central or state government pension schemes.

Application Process

Applications can be submitted both online and offline:

• Online Applications: Interested applicants can visit the official Ministry of Culture website and apply through the Culture Scheme Monitoring System (CSMS) portal.

• Selection Process: Submitted applications are reviewed by an expert committee that evaluates the applicant’s contribution and financial condition. Recommendations are forwarded to the administrative department, which makes the final decision based on fund availability. Once approved, the pension amount is transferred directly into the beneficiary’s bank account.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit valid documents for verification, including:

• Passport-size photograph

• Address proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, etc.)

• Proof of date of birth (Aadhaar, 10th certificate, Passport, etc.)

• Income certificate (Annexure-II(A))

• Documents supporting contributions in art, literature, or culture (awards, certificates, recognitions)

• Bank authorization letter (Annexure-IV)

• Recommendation from state government or union territory administration

For spousal pension transfer, additional documents such as the artist’s death certificate, digital life certificate (Jeevan Pramaan), spouse’s identity proof, and an affidavit confirming non-benefit from other schemes are required.
