A seemingly innocent Instagram story by Pat Cummins’ wife, Rebecca, has sent the cricket world into a spiral of speculation. Just hours after SunRisers Hyderabad’s defeat to Mumbai Indians, Rebecca posted an image from the airport with a caption that read: ‘Goodbye India, we have loved visiting this beautiful country.’ Naturally, this raised eyebrows. Is Cummins leaving India—and IPL 2025—before the season ends?
The photo that sparked buzzThe Instagram story featured two photos—one of the couple’s luggage and another of the two together. While neither explicitly confirmed a departure, the wording of the caption was enough to send fans into overdrive. With SRH already struggling in the season, speculation spread rapidly across social media.

SRH have had a forgettable season so far, losing five out of their seven matches. Cummins, the team’s ₹18 crore retention, has failed to turn things around. He managed only seven wickets with a costly economy rate of 10.22.
The team began their season by defeating Rajasthan Royals, but have since fallen on hard times. After defeating the Royals, they lost to Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Gujarat Titans.
They were able to defeat Punjab Kings, but lost to Mumbai Indians as soon as they gained some momentum. SRH has only two wins in seven games, and are perilously close to early elimination. Chennai Super Kings also have two wins and are in the same danger of elimination. Both teams have limited room for error.
Some fans believe the pressure, combined with his upcoming national duties—including the World Test Championship Final—could be a reason for an early exit.

Adding to the confusion is the lack of any official statement. Neither SunRisers Hyderabad nor the IPL has confirmed or denied the speculation. The team is currently on a break, with their next match scheduled for April 23 against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad. This has led to another theory: the Cummins family may simply be taking a short vacation during the break.
Until we have confirmed, the airport tweet is nothing more than a moment we can interpret any way we want on social media.
What’s next for Pat Cummins?Pat Cummins will captain Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa at Lord’s on June 11, 2025, after the IPL 2025 season. He will then captain Australia's home white-ball series against India (3 ODIs and 5 T20Is) in August - November 2025.
In the high-pressure realm of the IPL that is all it takes for a trivial goodbye to cause an uproar. Whether Cummins is gone for good or only temporarily, fans will be watching closely.
