One of the biggest action directors of Hindi cinema in recent times, Rohit Shetty is equally loved for his comedy films over the years.
While his last film witnessed a rare box office failure for Rohit Shetty, his new release Singham Again has taken a strong start at the ticket windows and is expected to witness a record breaking opening day.
Amid Singham Again’s mass hysteria at the box office, here’s a look at the previous 15 films directed by Rohit Shetty ranked from worst to best.
Check out the list below:
15. Cirkus (2022)© Rohit Shetty Productionz
Starring Ranveer Singh, Varun Sharma, Pooja Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles, this adaptation of Gulzar’s Angoor (1982) which was based on William Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors, is a rare misfire from Rohit Shetty.
The painfully unfunny film is simply his worst by a margin and was a box office disaster.
14. Sooryavanshi (2021)© Reliance Entertainment
The last film in Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe was also his weakest. Starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Abhimanyu Singh and Jackie Shroff, Sooryavanshi is a poorly made forgettable actioner.
The thing worth remembering in this is Ajay Devgn’s massy cameo as Bajirao Singham.
13. Simmba (2018)© Reliance Entertainment
The third film in the Cop Universe, Simmba isn’t as bad as Sooryavanshi but is not a patch on the other films helmed by Rohit Shetty. The film starred Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Sonu Sood in the lead roles and once again it was Ajay Devgn’s cameo as Bajirao Singham that made it a fun watch at the end.
12. Golmaal Again (2017)© Reliance Entertainment
The fourth film in the much-loved Golmaal franchise is a fun but forgettable watch unlike other comedy films that Rohit Shetty has directed. The film has a funny first half but gets derailed in the second half.
11. Dilwale (2015)© Red Chillies Entertainment
There is plenty that goes wrong with Dilwale but the pairing of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and some of the humour lands well. This is amongst the weakest Rohit Shetty films.
10. Singham Returns (20214)© Reliance Entertainment
Most of the Rohit Shetty films are at best a time pass watch and so is Singham Returns but it pales in comparison to its iconic predecessor and is a forgettable mass action drama.
9. Golmaal Returns (2008)© Rohit Shetty Productionz
The second film in the Golmaal franchise was a big hit and more or less works as a comedy but not as a “Golmaal” film and that’s its biggest issue.
8. Bol Bachchan (2012)© Devgn Films
Based on the 1979 comedy Gol Maal, Bol Bachchan is a fun and frivolous watch with gags quite similar to Bobby Deol’s Chor Machaaye Shor (2002) which was also a rip-off of Gol Maal.
7. Sunday (2008)© Panorama Studios
One of the most underrated films in Rohit Shetty’s filmography, Sunday is a mystery comedy that makes you laugh as well as keeps you intrigued. Unfortunately, it flopped at the box office.
6. Zameen (2003)© V.R. Entertainers
Another Rohit Shetty film that flopped but didn’t deserve to, Zameen is an action drama loosely based on the IC 814 hijack and marked the filmmaker’s debut.
5. Golmaal 3 (2010)© Reliance Entertainment
The big box office blockbuster, Golmaal 3 is amongst the best comedy films directed by Rohit Shetty. Its humour especially the scenes involving Mithun Chakraborty and Prem Chopra are iconic.
4. Chennai Express (2013)© Red Chillies Entertainment
The action comedy was the biggest grosser of Indian cinema at the time of its release and is quite an entertaining watch. It is one of the most loved films of Rohit Shetty’s career.
3. All The Best (2009)© Devgn Films
All The Best is a cult comedy classic with non-stop entertainment. The film had a similar vibe as the first Golmaal helmed by Rohit Shetty. It’s a must-watch.
2. Singham (2011)© Reliance Entertainment
It is not only the best film in the Cop Universe, it is also one of the best mass action dramas of Indian cinema. In Ajay Devgn’s Singham, Rohit Shetty gave Indian cinema one of the most iconic and loved characters.
1. Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006)© Rohit Shetty Productionz
One of the best comedy films of Indian cinema, Golmaal: Fun Unlimited is Rohit Shetty at his absolute best. Right from scene one, it is a laugh riot like no other.
