Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that the days of “appeasement politics” in West Bengal are over. He said the BJP is all set to form the government in the state in 2026, with strong support from its core Hindu voters and growing backing from women who are now drifting away from Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.
Speaking at a rally in Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor Stadium, Shah said, “Bengal’s women will not tolerate any insult to sindoor.” He was referring to Mamata Banerjee’s recent comments about PM Modi during Operation Sindoor, India’s military strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan.
Shah said, “When Bengalis were getting killed in violence in the state, she didn’t say a word. But now she’s mocking PM Modi for striking against terrorists, this clearly shows whose side she’s on.”
Murshidabad violence ‘state-sponsored’: Amit Shah
Shah blamed Mamata’s government for the recent violence in Murshidabad during protests against the anti-waqf law. Calling it a “state-sponsored riot,” he said the state government ignored alerts from the Centre and refused to call in the BSF. “Eventually, the BSF stepped in, but only after the high court gave orders. TMC leaders were blaming the BSF and supporting the rioters,” he said.
He asked, “Why did Mamata oppose changes to the waqf law? Who is she trying to protect?”
Infiltration from Bangladesh a big concern
Shah also raised concerns about infiltration from Bangladesh. He said Mamata Banerjee refuses to give land for border fencing to continue benefiting from her vote bank. “She wants her nephew to become CM, but that won’t happen,” Shah declared.
He added that the issue of infiltration is not just about Bengal’s future, but also about India’s national security.
BJP workers killed, TMC accused of loot
Shah accused the ruling TMC of allowing bomb blasts, injustice against Hindus, and violence against women. He said hundreds of BJP workers were killed after elections, but Mamata Banerjee continued to ignore it.
“Didi, how long will you hide the deaths of our karyakartas? Your time is over,” he warned.
He also compared the financial aid given to Bengal by two governments. Under the UPA, Bengal got Rs 2.09 lakh crore, but under Modi’s government, it received Rs 8.27 lakh crore in 10 years. “But the money didn’t reach the people. It was looted by the TMC syndicate,” Shah said.
He added, “Even if Modi sends Rs 50 lakh crore, the benefits won’t reach the common people until BJP forms a government in Bengal.”
Later in the day, Shah also inaugurated the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Rajarhat.
