Extension of US-China tariff truce subject to Trump approval, says Bessent

President Donald Trump will have the final say on whether China and the United States will prolong a truce regarding their trade, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters on Tuesday.

A 90-day extension is one option to approve, and trade negotiators from China and the U.S. will likely meet again in around 90 days, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer added.

"We'll report back to him the process we had here. We had constructive meetings for sure, to go back with the positive report. But the extension of the pause, he'll decide," Greer said.

The announcement comes after two days of bilateral talks in Stockholm to ease tariff hostilities between the world's two largest economies.
