JSW, GMR to manage Delhi Capitals teams on two-year rotational basis

MUMBAI: GMR Group and JSW Sports have unveiled a new operational arrangement to manage the Delhi Capitals Indian Premier League ( IPL) and Women's Premier League ( WPL) teams.

Under this agreement, the two ownership groups will take turns managing cricketing operations on a two-year rotational basis. This strategic move aims to enhance operational efficiency across the franchise's teams.

For the next two years, GMR Group will oversee the cricketing operations of the Delhi Capitals Men’s team, while JSW Sports will manage the Delhi Capitals Women’s team.

In 2027, the roles will reverse, with JSW Sports taking over the Men’s team. However, the franchise's business operations will continue to be managed by the existing Delhi Capitals’ management team.

Key decisions such as auctions, captaincy, and player retention will be made by the Delhi Capitals’ board, with both ownership groups’ senior leadership collaborating on these choices.

GMR Group was an original franchise owner of the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL’s 2008 launch. In 2018, the group entered into a 50:50 partnership with JSW Sports, rebranding the team as Delhi Capitals.

The franchise has had several notable performances, including reaching the 2019 playoffs and making its first-ever IPL final in 2020. The women’s team, acquired in 2023, has made it to the final of both Women’s Premier League editions.

Additionally, GMR Group will continue managing the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 League, while JSW Sports will oversee the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 South African league.
