Toronto mass shooting: One dead, five injured in Lawrence Heights gunfire; Police launch major investigation

At least one person has died and five others have been injured following a shooting in the Lawrence Heights area of Toronto on Tuesday night.

According to Toronto police, emergency services responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 8:30 pm (local time) near the intersection of Flemington and Zachary Roads, close to Ranee Avenue and Allen Road.

One man was found dead at the scene. The five others who were shot were rushed to hospital, but details about their condition have not yet been shared.


Police Set Up Command Post

A command post has been established in the Ranee Avenue and Flemington Road area as investigations continue. So far, police have not released any information about potential suspects or what may have led to the shooting.


Mayor Olivia Chow Responds
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said she was “disturbed” by the incident and confirmed that her office is staying in contact with the police.

“I want to thank the first responders, Toronto police, fire, and paramedic services, for your work on a very busy and challenging scene,” she said in a statement.

Area Under Tight Security
The area remains heavily guarded by police, who are speaking to witnesses and collecting evidence to find out what happened.

The investigation is still ongoing, and residents have been asked to avoid the area while police work at the scene.
