In a recent update, Pakistan has shut down its airspace for Indian airlines which has a huge impact on international travel. Now with Pakistan closing its airspace, international flight times are expected to increase. The fares on some routes are also likely to rise by 8–12% in the near future, especially from Delhi and other northern cities.
In the view of the current situation, Air India took to X (formerly Twitter) and announced that because of the latest imposed restrictions, many of its flights to and from North America, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East may be rerouted via longer, alternative paths. Passengers are advised to anticipate delays and plan their travel accordingly.
IndiGo too issued a travel advisory for their passengers and announced, “In view of the ongoing situation and Pakistan airspace closure, a few international flight schedules may be impacted. We’re working to minimise the inconvenience”.
Apparently, Pakistan on Thursday shut down its airspace to all Indian airlines or Indian-operated airlines. It is a huge decision as the shutting down airspace means longer routes, longer time and additional fare.
While the world is shocked with the brutality of the act, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to hunt down the terrorists involved and punish them severely.
What happened in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025
April 22 will always be remembered as a black day in the history of India and Kashmir. On Tuesday afternoon, some unidentified men laced with guns opened fire on a group of tourists in the Baisaran meadow, some 5 km from Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. This is being called one of the deadliest terror attacks in the Valley in the past few years.
The visuals coming from the incident ground left the world in tears, as eyewitnesses said the terrorists came out of pine forests and started firing at innocent people who were enjoying with families, riding ponies, or simply relaxing. Among the dead, most were tourists, including two foreigners from the UAE and Nepal, and two locals.
The travel advisories have been issued now to keep travellers informed and updated on current ongoing political tensions and situations.
