Thane: The Anti-Narcotic Cell of Thane police arrested a man for allegedly possessing 242 grams of Mephedrone powder worth over Rs 48 lakh in Thane. The accused has been identified as Ghewaram Patel (21), a resident of Hyderabad, who originally hails from Rajasthan.
The Thane police initiated a special drive to curb drug activities across the city by taking stringent action under the instructions of a senior officer.Ajay Sakpal, a police constable, received information that a man would come to Thane intending to sell drugs to someone. He alerted his superior.
A team of the ANC was formed and set up a trap in the Gaimukh area located on Ghodbunder Road, Thane, detaining Patel based on suspicion and finding 242 grams of MD powder in his possession, and then allegedly apprehended him. An FIR was filed against him under various sections of the NDPS Act.
The police said the accused was produced in court and remanded into police custody for further investigation. They are attempting to determine where the accused procured drugs and who the recipients are. The police suspect that the interstate drug mafia is actively working.
