Bhiwandi: A 67-year-old woman sustained injuries after a wall of a dilapidated structure collapsed onto her house in the Nizampura area of Bhiwandi late Sunday night.
The injured woman has been identified as Tarrannum Patel, a resident of Nizampura, who lived with her family in the house. The incident occurred while she was in her bedroom, when a portion of an adjacent abandoned or dilapidated house — reportedly belonging to Masood Patel and fell onto her residence.
According to family members, the structure had been declared dangerous and unfit for habitation by the Bhiwandi-Nizampura City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) nearly four years ago. No one occupied in the unfit Or dilapidated house for long years. However, no action had been taken to demolish the building, despite repeated complaints from residents.
Local residents and family members rushed to the scene upon hearing the collapse and discovered that Tarrannum trapped under the debris. She was rescued and immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Arbina Patel, Tarrannum’s daughter-in-law, expressed frustration over the authorities’ inaction. "Despite several complaints about the dangerous structure, which has remained unoccupied for years, neither the civic body nor the property owner took responsibility. This accident could have been prevented," she said.
