He mentioned that his primary concern during the auction was that Punjab Kings might purchase him, considering the team had the highest purse of ₹112 crore. However, Pant revealed that he didn’t wish to join Punjab. This statement went viral, and soon after, a user posted an alleged response from Preity Zinta on social media.
The post claimed that Zinta had exposed Pant’s comment, saying, "Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were both options for us. We could have picked them, but we opted for a big performer, not just a big name... so we went with Shreyas Iyer."
