The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning regarding Chikungunya, whose cases have increased rapidly in many countries recently. This disease not only weakens the health but also takes a lot of time to recover. In such a situation, it is very important to take precautions in time and know the right prevention methods.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an alert regarding the increasing cases of chikungunya. It is a serious viral disease, which spreads through the bite of Aedes mosquito. According to WHO, the infection is suddenly increasing in many parts of the world and this is posing a threat to public health. Symptoms like high fever, intense joint pain and fatigue are seen in chikungunya. This disease weakens the immunity of the body and the patient may feel weak for a long time. In severe cases, it can affect nerves and other organs, due to which the patient's recovery takes months. WHO has said that timely identification and caution is the biggest way to prevent it.
Chikungunya is mainly spread by the bite of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. These are the same mosquitoes that spread dengue and Zika virus. Infection occurs when the mosquito bites a healthy person after sucking the blood of an infected person. The Chikungunya virus enters the body and spreads rapidly and increases the amount of virus in the blood. This disease mostly flourishes during the rainy season or where water accumulates because the number of mosquitoes increases in such places. Unhygienic environment, stagnant water and lack of adequate protection are the main causes of infection. People with weak immunity, children and the elderly are at greater risk.
What are the symptoms of chikungunya?Dr. Ajay Kumar of Delhi MCD explains that the symptoms of Chikungunya usually appear 4-7 days after infection. The most common symptoms include sudden high fever and unbearable joint pain, which can sometimes last for weeks. Apart from this, headache, muscle pain, fatigue and red rashes on the skin are also its symptoms. Many patients have problems of nausea, vomiting and mild eye irritation. The joint pain in Chikungunya is so severe that the patient may be unable to do normal work.
In some cases, swelling and stiffness is also seen in the hands and feet. In severe infections, especially in people with weak immunity, the nervous system can be affected, causing weakness and pain for a long time. If timely treatment is not received, this disease can force the patient to remain in bed for months.
How to protect yourself?Do not allow water to accumulate nearby.
Use mosquito repellents and coils.
To avoid mosquitoes, wear clothes that cover your entire body even during the day.
Install mosquito nets or nets on doors and windows in the house.
If you feel fever or other symptoms, contact your doctor immediately.
