Arsenal have paid tribute to former academy prospect Billy Vigar after he passed away aged 21. It was confirmed on Thursday that the Chichester City forward had died after sustaining a significant brain injury.
The 21-year-old was plying his trade in the sixth tier of English football, in the Isthmian League Premier Division, after leaving the Premier League club in 2024. Vigar joined the North London club's academy as a 14-year-old and signed his first professional contract in 2022.
He had been a part of the Gunners' under-21 set-up until last year before he signed for Hastings United on a free transfer following his exit. During his time with the Gunners, Vigar featured five times, including one appearance in the EFL Trophy as he made a late substitute appearance against Ipswich in 2022.

The Worthing-born forward had two loan spells away from the Premier League club after signing temporary deals with Derby County under-21s before making 32 appearances for Eastbourne Borough in the National League South.
Vigar signed for Chichester in the summer and scored two goals in six appearances for the club. However, during their Isthmian League Premier Division encounter away at Wingate & Finchley, the game was abandoned after 10 minutes due to a serious injury.
The club revealed in a follow-up statement that the 21-year-old suffered a significant brain injury and was in an induced coma.
In a statement on Thursday, Chichester City confirmed the sad passing of the former Arsenal forward: "After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put in an induced coma. On Tuesday he needed an operation to aid any chances of recovery.

"Although this helped, the injury proved too much for him and he passed away on Thursday (25th) morning.
"The responses to the original update show how much Billy was thought of and loved within the sport. His family are devastated that this has happened whilst he was playing the sport that he loved."
Arsenal have issued their condolences to the forward's family in a touching tribute. "Everyone at Arsenal is devastated by the shocking news that former academy graduate Billy Vigar has passed away," they said. "All our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time.
"Rest in peace, Billy."
The Football Association (FA) also reacted to the talented footballer's devastating death. Their statement read: "We are devastated to hear that Billy Vigar has passed away.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, loved ones, and everyone at Chichester City FC at this incredibly difficult time."
