British tennis hero breaches Donald Trump rule on Sky Sports after US Open delay

British tennis star Laura Robson breached a broadcasting guideline at the US Open final. The United States Tennis Association had requested media not to mention any negative disruption surrounding Donald Trump's attendance.

In a captivating US Open men's singles final, Carlos Alcaraz defeated rival Jannik Sinner in four sets to reclaim the world No. 1 ranking and secure a sixth Grand Slam triumph at just 22 years old. Nevertheless, whilst the match itself proved enthralling, it was somewhat eclipsed by the US President.

Trump became the first sitting president to attend the showpiece in 25 years, and sparked uproar with his arrival, which meant thousands had to endure additional security screenings and the match was postponed by 30 minutes.

How Trump was welcomed by spectators was meant to remain under wraps, but Robson, working as a pundit for Sky Sports, failed to adhere to the guidelines.

Prior to the final, reports emerged that the USTA had issued instructions to any media personnel present at Arthur Ashe Stadium concerning Trump, according to the Express.

It stated: "We ask all broadcasters to refrain from showing any disruptions or reactions in response to the president's attendance in any capacity."

Yet Robson clearly did not heed this appeal. When Trump was initially displayed on the big screen during the national anthem, the audience was divided in their response. But when he was shown again after the first set, boos rained down.

Despite the USTA's request for the media to refrain from reporting on disruptions, Robson didn't hold back, stating: "They've just shown Trump on the big screen, lots of boos."

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova also took a swipe at Trump's presence, which had delayed the start of the match and caused some fans to miss out due to additional security measures.

"For the final to be postponed because of this is absolutely insane," Navratilova declared. "People have paid thousands of dollars for these tickets. It was half empty at the start. Normally, this place would be rocking."

Away from such commotion, Alcaraz triumphed over Sinner once again. The pair have faced off in three Grand Slam finals this year, and with his victory at Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz has reclaimed his spot at the top of the ATP rankings.

"For me, achieving that [becoming world No. 1] once again, it is a dream. Doing it on the same day as getting another Grand Slam feels even better. It's everything I'm working for, and I'm really happy to be able to live these experiences," Alcaraz confessed.

"I feel like this is the best tournament. Since the first rounds to the end of the tournament, the best tournament so far that I have ever played.

"The consistency of my level during the whole tournament has been really, really high, which I'm really proud of, because it's something that I've been working on, to be really consistent."
