Bangers are brilliant when you're after something filling for brekkie, but they can often end up greasy or rather tasteless if you simply chuck them in a pan without any consideration. Plenty of people actually season shop-bought sausages before cooking to enhance the flavour and cut through all that grease.
Julie Clark, a recipe creator with 35 years under her belt and founder of Tastes of Lizzy T, reckons a straightforward yet time-honoured method to make bangers more delicious is using fennel seeds.
She explained: "Italian sausage has many herbs and spices, but fennel seed is what gives it its distinct flavour. Don't skip it. I buy whole fennel seed and crush it slightly when making this seasoning mix."

It may sound rather odd if you've never given it a go before, but fennel seeds are a staple ingredient in Italian cuisine to make pork more appealing.
When fennel seeds are toasted they bring additional warmth and sweetness to a dish, which pairs beautifully with fatty meats like pork to enhance the flavour, reports the Express.
Nevertheless, fennel seeds are also recognised for aiding digestion, and can make a substantial breakfast like sausages much gentler on your tummy. Taking the effort to season bangers is simple but will make your morning fry-up far more tasty, or even transform classic dinners like bangers and mash into something more exciting.
How to season sausagesYou will need
- 1/2 tsp of fennel seeds
- 1/2 tsp of paprika
- Two tsp of dried parsley
- Two tsp of Italian seasoning
- One tsp of red pepper flakes
- 1 1/2 tsp of black pepper
- One tbsp of minced garlic
- One tbsp of minced onion

Method
All you need is a small bowl, then pour in all the seasoning. Stir everything together with a teaspoon and then sprinkle on your bangers.
You can add your seasoning to shop-bought sausages if you wish, but if you fancy making your bangers from scratch, you'll also need two pounds of minced pork. If crafting homemade sausages, simply mix the seasoning into the pork, mould into patties, and then fry in a large pan.
Sausage seasoning is a doddle to whip up, and just a smidgen of effort will transform your brekkie into something seriously scrumptious. If you want to store the seasoning, pop it in an airtight container but for long-term use make sure to use dried onion and garlic seasoning instead of fresh minced veg.
It's such a simple recipe, yet the results are delicious. Don't be surprised if there aren't any leftovers left!
