Hairy Baker Dave Myers urged his best friend and TV partner Si King to do one simple thing before his death last year. In an emotional televised moment, in the wake of his cancer diagnosis, Myers begged his co-star to be in the present.
With the cameras still rolling he said to Si: "One thing I'd say is you have to live for today, don't live for tomorrow because you don't know what's around the corner. It could be a double-decker bus. Live for today and don't worry so much. I've always been a stupid worrier. Big stuff I'm alright, but I worry about the daft stuff but now I'm learning, I'm like, 'Come on Myers, get it in perspective! But cancer - there's nothing that kicks you in the teeth like that."
The lovable bearded cooking duo stole the nation's hearts with their culinary adventures as they explored the country on their motorbikes. , their much-loved television show, attracted prime ratings in its peak. Before becoming household names, they both kept a low profile behind the television screens - with working in TV production and in hair and make-up.

This evening's repeat episode was filmed in where the foodie friends will cook up a traditional Cumbrian breakfast, also creating a Thai feast and a summer vegetable strudel along the way. It is the first in three series of Hairy Bikers Go North, which was filmed in 2021, and sees the two friends travelling through Derbyshire, Lancashire, and South Yorkshire.
Next week's episode will come from North Yorkshire where the talented pair will create some mouth-watering local dishes, including a mangalica pork Wellington, a German bee sting cake, and a root vegetable tray bake.
The Hairy Bikers visited every corner of Britain during their 20-year incarnation between 2004 and 2024, and co-wrote several cookbooks, selling more than 6 million copies. They first met on a television set in 1995, and became the very best of friends. But everything changed in 2022, when Dave was diagnosed with cancer and had to take time off from the road to have chemotherapy.

Despite being open about his diagnosis, he chose not to reveal what kind of cancer he had, telling The Guardian at the time: "Because everybody then goes Googling, everybody becomes an amateur doctor. And I don't want to be judged yet." He then added: "A huge inconvenience is the best way to describe it."
It's hard to pin down the chemistry that existed between the two men. Both Dave and Si came from working class backgrounds and , but their friendship never waned, with Si saying: "We're brothers really. It transcends friendship."
Despite his cancer diagnosis, Dave never stopped looking forwards to the future, even during his final week in February 2024. One of the last posts before Dave's death showed Si smiling at Dave in a sweet photograph of them basking in the sunshine. Not surprisingly, it was Si who broke the news of Dave's death and was there with him in his final moments.
In a tender tribute to his dear friend, Si went on to produce a one-off documentary called to celebrate Dave's life. The special programme followed 45,000 bikers who joined Si on a memorial journey from London to Dave's hometown of Barrow-in-Furness. The event became known as Dave's Day - and marked Si's last journey as a Hairy Biker.
In an interview with The Sun, he said at the time, he said : "It was important to celebrate the man and what he's achieved and it was important to give our audience a goodbye as well.." Dave Day was organised by Si, Dave's widow Lili Myers, and another friend as a celebration of Si's bearded 'brother's' life.
Si went on to say: "We're all so sorry that we're here in these circumstances but it was a celebration of that show. There's lots of joy in that show but that was Dave." He added that his friend had been a "joyous man" who "embraced" and "loved" the life that he led.
Si said after the show was broadcast: "I just couldn't believe the scale of the event and I think for the motorcycle community it was an opportunity to show their affection for Dave and the Bikers and that was on a mass scale. And those who weren't in the motorcycle fraternity who lined the route, that was a remarkable collective, am emotional tsunami of kindness and love and affection. For us all to come together as a community, it just felt like there was a sense of belonging. It was a beautiful day."
The next episode of Hairy Bikers Go North will be broadcast tonight at 7pm on BBC 2.
