To find out which beans were the best, 66 blindfolded tasters were asked to rank a variety of beans from Heinz and Branston, as well as supermarket own-brands, including , Sainsbury’s, , and Aldi. The tasters rated the beans based on aroma, texture, and flavour, with each product being sampled without knowing which brand it was.
In the surprising results, it was found that Aldi’s beans took the top spot, with a total rank of 76% in satisfaction from the panel. Even better, they’re one of the cheapest beans with a price of 41p for a 410g can - a total bargain. This makes them not only the best choice in terms of quality, but also one of the most budget-friendly options.
Compared to Aldi’s beans, tasters said its aroma and flavour were perfect, and the texture was just right. In second place and third place, it was Branston and , respectively, followed by Asda securing the fourth spot. Yes, Heinz’s beans took fifth place.

The results raised eyebrows, considering that Heinz is such a popular brand in the UK. But while Heiz didn’t make it to the top three in the ranking, its beans took the first place in terms of flavour and texture.
