The statement of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also come out regarding the stampede in celebration of the victory of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). There are also reports of four people dying in the stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. News agency PTI has confirmed this quoting hospital officials. There was a festive atmosphere in Bangalore since Tuesday night when RCB won the title.
Fans were seen in large numbers.
RCB won the title for the first time by defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in the final of IPL 2025 played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The RCB franchise had decided to celebrate this historic victory with the home fans. The team of IPL 2025 champion RCB reached Bangalore from Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The champion players were given a grand welcome on reaching Bangalore. There was a huge crowd of fans from Bangalore airport to the team hotel and outside the Karnataka Vidhan Soudha.
Sakia expressed condolences
Before the RCB team reached the Chinnaswamy Stadium, a stampede broke out in which four people died. Now the BCCI has also expressed grief over this. BCCI Secretary Devjit Sakia said this is a sad incident. This is the downside of popularity, people are crazy about their cricketers. This is most unfortunate, the organizers should have planned the celebration of RCB's IPL victory better. I express my condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
Sakia said, that when someone organizes a victory celebration on such a large scale, proper precautions, safety, and security measures should be taken. Somewhere there has been some lapse. After such a spectacular conclusion of the IPL, this was an unfortunate incident. IPL title victories have been celebrated before, like in Kolkata last year when KKR won, but nothing happened there.
BCCI secretary gave the example of Mumbai
Sakia also gave the example of the celebrations in Mumbai after India's T20 World Cup win in Barbados. He said, when we won the T20 World Cup, the situation was the same. There was a huge crowd in Mumbai, but nothing happened. The police and local authorities worked together so that the event could be organized smoothly. I hope that no other untoward incident happens.
He said, there were 120,000 people in the stadium during the IPL final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, but the BCCI has a dedicated team, which along with the local district administration and law enforcement officials made a detailed plan to ensure the safety of the spectators.
Rajeev Shukla said - it should not be politicized.
BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said the government had stopped the roadshow to avoid stampede or any such situation. But, it was not anticipated that there would be a stampede outside the stadium. Everyone should work together on damage control. This can happen in any state and the ruling party should not be blamed for this. It should not be politicized. If this happens in a BJP-ruled state then we should not blame them. The crowd was very large, I spoke to the franchise, and they also did not think that such a large crowd would come and suddenly this incident happened. Efforts are being made to provide maximum help to the families of the deceased.
RCB spokesperson has also stated this stampede. RCB spokesperson said fans waited 18 years for this cup. We should sympathize with them.
