Veteran Kannada filmmaker S Narayan, known for directing over 50 films, has landed in legal trouble once again. His daughter-in-law, Pavitra, has lodged a police complaint accusing him of dowry harassment. The case has been registered at Gyanbharathi Police Station in Bengaluru, and an FIR has been filed against the filmmaker.
Allegations Against the FamilyPavitra, who married Narayan’s son Pawan in 2021, has not only accused her father-in-law but also named her husband and mother-in-law, Bhagyavati, in the complaint. She claims that despite giving dowry at the time of marriage, additional money was repeatedly demanded from her. According to Pavitra, she was harassed and eventually thrown out of her matrimonial home. She has been living away from her in-laws for the past 10 months.
Financial Disputes and Loan of Rs 10 LakhsPavitra further alleged that her husband Pawan was unemployed and that she bore the financial responsibility of running the household. She stated that she was pressured to provide funds to establish the ‘Kalasamrat Team Academy.’ To arrange this, she mortgaged her jewelry and later took a loan of Rs 10 lakhs, which she handed over to Pawan. However, the venture failed and was eventually shut down.
S Narayan’s ResponseReacting to the allegations, S Narayan denied any wrongdoing. He said, “It has been 10 months since Pavitra left the house. If I speak about the reasons, it might tarnish her name. After just one month of marriage, our conversations stopped. She never gave importance to age or personality.”
With both sides presenting contrasting claims, the matter has now moved into legal proceedings, bringing the private disputes of one of Kannada cinema’s most respected filmmakers into the public spotlight.
