After the declaration of Bihar Assembly election dates, the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) has nearly finalized its seat-sharing formula following days of marathon meetings. Alliance partners include the RJD, Congress, VIP led by Mukesh Sahni, and the Left parties. Sources indicate the RJD is expected to contest around 125 seats, with Congress allocated 55-57, the Left about 35, and Mukesh Sahni’s VIP likely to get 20 seats. Smaller partners such as JMM may receive a couple of seats each. Discussions have at times turned tense, with the Congress pushing for a larger share, though ultimately willing to compromise on key constituencies.
Meanwhile, Mukesh Sahni remains firm on his demand to be named the Grand Alliance’s Deputy Chief Minister face. Sahni, whose VIP is critical among OBC communities, has leveraged his bargaining position by insisting on a prominent role, reiterating that he won’t settle for a minor share. Tejashwi Yadav, RJD’s prominent leader, has played the role of mediator as alliance partners seek consensus. Leaders believe minor issues will be resolved at a meeting scheduled at Tejashwi’s residence, with an official announcement about seat allocations expected soon.
Mukesh Sahni has stated that the alliance is determined to defeat the BJP and that everything regarding seat sharing is settled internally. He hinted that formal details may be revealed in a press conference as early as tomorrow evening. With each party keen to maximize its share ahead of the polls, the Grand Alliance appears confident it will present a united front, despite ongoing negotiations over leadership roles and constituency swaps.
