Send Push

A tragic incident occurred at Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College in Sundarnagar, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, where a fourth-semester computer science student ended his life by hanging himself in the hostel room. The student’s body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan, and a suicide note found at the scene implicated a classmate in his decision to take this extreme step.

Discovery of the Tragic Incident

Fellow students became concerned when the boy did not respond or come out of his room for an extended period. After knocking on the door repeatedly with no response, they broke it open and found him hanging by a belt. The college authorities and police were immediately informed.

Allegation of Blackmail Leads to Arrest

The suicide note explicitly mentioned that one of his classmates was responsible for pushing him towards suicide. Following the note’s revelation, the police launched an investigation and arrested a second-semester student of the same college. The accused student, a female classmate, has been accused of blackmailing the deceased.

Legal Action and Case Status

The deceased’s mother filed a complaint alleging that her son was subjected to blackmail by the accused student, which led to his suicide. Consequently, the police registered a case under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

After completing the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family. The accused was produced before the Additional Judicial Magistrate of Sundar Nagar and remanded to police custody for two days for further investigation.
