In a shocking case from Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh, a woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of her five-month-old nephew. The Special Judge of the Anti-Robbery Court also imposed a fine of ₹45,000 on the convict. If she fails to pay the fine, she will have to serve an additional two and a half years in jail.
The woman, Sita, murdered the infant in a cold-blooded attempt to frame her husband Deshraj amidst ongoing disputes between them. She was living at her maternal home at the time.
Infant went missing in 2022
On November 14, 2022, five-month-old Sushil, son of Rinku from Lalupura village (Bilhaur Kotwali area), suddenly went missing from outside the house. Suspicion initially fell on Deshraj and Sita, who lived in Rasulpur, Bangarmau, Unnao. The child's father lodged a missing complaint naming both.
Body recovered from river, aunt arrested
A few days later, on November 18, police recovered Sushil’s body from the Ishan river. Investigations revealed Sita’s involvement, and she was arrested. As the case progressed, police found no evidence against her husband, and his name was dropped from the chargesheet.
Court finds motive to frame husband
During the hearing, the court concluded that Sita committed the murder with the intention to falsely implicate her husband. On July 24, the court pronounced her guilty, and on Monday, she was sentenced. Alongside the murder charge, she was also convicted of evidence tampering and kidnapping.
