Angelina Jolie is set to be honored with the Maltin Modern Master Award on February 5, 2025, at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The prestigious award, established in 1995, celebrates filmmakers for their significant achievements and lasting impact on the film industry. It was renamed in 2015 to honor Leonard Maltin, a long-time festival moderator and renowned film critic.

Jolie, an Academy Award-winning actress, will be recognized for her portrayal of opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larrain's biographical drama Maria. The film, which follows the final days of the American-Greek soprano as she reflects on her life and legacy in Paris, received a standing ovation at its Venice Film Festival premiere, where Jolie was visibly moved.

The Maltin Modern Master Award has previously been given to notable figures such as Robert Downey Jr., Nicole Kidman, Denzel Washington, and George Clooney. Jolie’s extensive career includes an Academy Award for Girl, Interrupted and standout roles in films such as A Mighty Heart, Changeling, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Salt, and Maleficent. She has also directed critically acclaimed films like In the Land of Blood and Honey and Unbroken.

"Angelina Jolie makes bold choices, both as an actress and a director," said Leonard Maltin. "She sets the bar high and consistently delivers."

The 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival will run from February 4-15, 2025.
