Bagmati Express Collision: Passengers Safely Reach Darbhanga

BIHAR-Darbhanga: A special train carrying passengers affected by the October 11 collision involving the Bagmati Superfast Express arrived safely in Darbhanga early Monday morning. The Bagmati Express, which was traveling from Mysore to Darbhanga, collided with a freight train near Kavaraipettai railway station in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district last Friday.

While several passengers sustained injuries, there were no reported fatalities. Following the incident, a special train was arranged to transport stranded passengers. This train departed from Chennai Central railway station on Saturday morning and successfully reached Darbhanga.

At Darbhanga station, passengers shared their harrowing experiences and expressed relief at surviving the accident. Many appreciated the support provided by railway officials, local authorities, and community members after the collision.

One of the injured passengers, Sunil Kumar, described the moment of the accident: "I was eating and resting when a sudden jolt threw me off my seat. I lost consciousness, and when I came to, I had blood on my head and feet. Others helped me get out of the coach." Sunil explained how the scene was terrifying, with one coach stacked on another, and he also mentioned losing his belongings in the chaos.

Soni Devi, who was returning home after medical treatment, recalled, "We were waiting for our food when we heard a loud noise, and chaos erupted. Our coach derailed, but we were fortunate to escape unharmed. Others, however, were not as lucky."

Another passenger, Sitaraman Jha, reflected on the event, saying, "By God’s grace, we survived. When we got out of the coach, there was no major loss of life or property, but the railway was damaged, and many passengers were hurt. Injured passengers were taken to a hospital in Chennai, while those who were unharmed were sent to Darbhanga by the special train."

Rescue efforts commenced soon after the accident, with railway, police, and fire department officials arriving on the scene. An investigation into the cause of the collision is now underway. Despite no fatalities, fear was still evident among the passengers at Darbhanga station. As of now, 16 passengers have filed complaints regarding lost belongings.

The accident occurred around 8:30 pm on the Chennai-Gudur section between Ponneri and Kavaraipettai, causing the derailment of 12 coaches of the passenger train. The incident disrupted train services in the region, leading to the cancellation of two trains and the rerouting of several others.
