BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars to be banned in Delhi

If you are driving a BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel car in Delhi, then you should consider leaving them. The Transport Department is preparing to ban these cars soon. As soon as the rules of Grap-3 come into force, driving these four-wheelers on the road will be prohibited.

Penalties and rules:  If any BS-3 or BS-4 vehicle is found on the road, a fine of Rs 20,000 will be imposed on the vehicle owner. At present, there are 2 lakh 7 thousand 38 petrol vehicles and 3 lakh 9 thousand 225 diesel BS-4 vehicles in Delhi. This number shows the serious situation of pollution.

Air pollution concern:  This step of the Transport Department is being taken to reduce air pollution. The National Air Quality Commission has directed to promote electric and CNG-powered vehicles in Delhi and NCR region. Also, the Transport Department has deployed 114 teams to take action against vehicles spreading pollution.

Emergency services protected:  It is worth noting that this ban will not apply to vehicles used for emergency services and government work. This means that ambulances, fire brigades, and government vehicles are exempted from this rule.

What is Bharat Stage?  Bharat Stage is a standard for vehicles that has been implemented to control pollution. This standard was brought under the direction of the Ministry of Forest and Environment and Climate Change. Bharat Stage emission standards are based on European norms.

According to reports, the implementation of BS standards has reduced the sulphur content, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and particulate matter in fuels. For example, a BS-4 standard engine running on petrol emitted 1.0 g/km of carbon monoxide, 0.18 g/km of hydrocarbons and 0.025 g/km of breathable suspended particulate matter.

Government's objective:  The government uses these standards to measure the level of pollution caused by vehicles. This not only improves air quality but also has a positive impact on the health of citizens. So, if you are driving a BS-3 petrol or BS-4 diesel car, it's time to think about a new and less polluting vehicle.
