Holy Dips During 'Jivitputrika' Festival in 15 Bihar Districts: 43 Die, 3 Missing

BIHAR: During the recent Jivitputrika festival in Bihar, a heartbreaking tragedy unfolded as 43 people, including 37 children, drowned while taking holy dips in rivers and ponds. The unfortunate incidents occurred across 15 districts on Wednesday, as devotees participated in this significant cultural event.

The Jivitputrika festival involves women fasting for the health and safety of their children, which often includes taking holy dips in water bodies. According to a statement from the state's Disaster Management Department (DMD), "A total of 43 bodies have been recovered so far, and search operations are ongoing for three individuals still missing."

In response to this tragedy, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a compensation of ₹4 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives. The process of disbursing this financial aid has already begun, with family members of eight victims receiving the assistance.

Drowning incidents were reported from several districts, including East and West Champaran, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Buxar, Siwan, Rohtas, Saran, Patna, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Gopalganj, and Arwal.

The state government continues to monitor the situation closely, working to support affected families during this difficult time.
