New Delhi: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be the next recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
The 65-year-old actor and filmmaker will be honoured at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I & B) announced on Saturday.
“On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri. Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023. Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history,” the I & B ministry said in a post on X.
Mohanlal has acted in over 400 films, and counting, in a career spanning four decades.
A Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan awardee, Mohanlal is also a two-time National Film Award winner for Best Actor.
Known for his work predominantly in Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal has also featured in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi movies.
Last year, veteran actor-Mithun Chakraborty was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2022.
