You can't have a good without gravy - it brings the entire meal together and while you can get a store-bought gravy mix to whip some up quickly and save yourself some time, why not test our your skills sometime and prepare a nice homemade one. Self proclaimed 'foodie', Julia Tanevski revealed the secret ingredient on , noting that "it gives the perfect hint of sweetness to break up the rich umami flavours," making the gravy couldn't be more simple and has to be put to the test. She added: "If you're into the whole sweet and salty scene, this is going to be your newest condiment obsession."
The food lover continued: "On top of roast meat, potatoes, or our personal favourite, dunked with pork crackling: it's a total game-changer. Don't believe us? You'll have to try it for yourself."
So when Sunday comes and start cooking a roast, you can ditch the store-bought gravy, or if you do already make your own, replace the red wine, and add a bit of sweetness to your meal instead.
Ingredients for honey butter gravy:- 15g salted butter
- 1 tbsp plain flour
- 250ml (1 cup) chicken stock
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 5 sprigs fresh thyme, plus extra leaves, to serve
- 1 1/1 tbsp honey
- Start by melting the butter in a non-stick saucepan over a medium heat until foamy. Add in some flour and cook, whilst stirring for a minute or until foaming. Remove the saucepan from the hear and gradually stir in the stock of broth, lemon juice and thyme.
- Once that done, return the saucepan to a medium heat and continue cooking while constantly stirring the gravy for about 10 to 12 minutes or until it boils and thickens.
- Go in with the honey and stril until combined and then seasoning as you wish.
The recipe published on the website serves the honey butter gravy with roasted pork crackling, but as Julia said, this gravy will pretty much go with it all.
