BBC Breakfast host admits 'I shouldn't have said that' after savage dig at own show

A host was left cringing after making a comment they regretted.

The morning show returned to screens on Saturday (November 9) for another instalment. Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were back at the helm, to discuss some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines on the famous red sofa.

During the episode, the hosts spoke to Michelle Wright the head of care at Zoe's Place in Liverpool about the incredible work they do at the hospice. The charity helps children aged under five with chronic or life-limiting conditions.

It was recently announced it would have to shut at the end of the year. However, fortunately, the charity received enough money from businessesa and individuals to remain open.

Also joining Michelle on the sofa was mum Amanda and daughter Esme who have received help from the hospice. But things took an awkward turn after Charlie appeared to make a dig at his own show.

Explaining why her daughter isn't as vocal as usual, Amanda said: "She's normally very happy and smiley but I don't think she's feeling herself this morning so she's very chill."

Charlie then quipped: "She won't be the first person who has slept through an entire chunk of BBC Breakfast." His guests laughed along as Naga then chimed in: "Nor the last."

However, realising what he said, Charlie backtracked and admitted: "Am I allowed to say that? Oh no, I shouldn't say that."

It comes after Naga suffered a wardrobe malfunction earlier this week. On Thursday (Novemebr 7) viewers couldn't help but notice how her dress appeared to be slightly open.

Talking to campaigner Angela Frazer Wicks on her painful adoption experience, Naga and Charlie turned to their right to speak their guest. However, Naga's navy buttoned dress which was previously fine for TV had an opening in the top half section.

Seeing the mishap on their screens, fans headed over to X to point it out, with one writing: "Naga, sort your wardrobe malfunction out. It's distracting."

BBC Breakfast airs Monday to Sunday from 6am on BBC One.
