England star Chloe Kelly has apologised on social media following her X-rated performance on the microphone during today's homecoming parade for the Lionesses. In incredible scenes, the squad travelled on an open-top bus along The Mall, with around 65,000 fans joining the celebrations.
Supporters lined the route before heading to the stage in front of the Queen Victoria Memorial outside Buckingham Palace. There, players were interviewed and also addressed fans over the microphone. When Kelly took her turn, the 27-year-old didn't hold back.
"Pressure? What pressure?" she shouted, to big cheers. "It feels so good... thank you to everyone who got out to support us. It's so f*****g special."
The BBC captured the moment live, and presenter Alex Scott was forced to apologise to viewers. Kelly later took to social media to offer her own apology, admitting she got caught up in the moment.
"Oops. Emotions got the better of me," she wrote on Instagram, also sharing the post on X. With a hands-on-head emoji, she added: "Sorry for the F bomb. Love CK x."
Just moments later she uploaded a more positive post, pictured with her winners' medal from Switzerland around her neck with Buckingham Palace in the background. She added the caption: "I LOVE ENGLAND."
Arsenal star Kelly turned out to be one of the heroes of England's campaign, scoring the winning goal in the 119th minute against Italy in the semi-final. The forward drilled home the rebound after her penalty was saved to set up the final clash with Spain.
In that clash, she came on as a substitute and provided the cross for Alessia Russo's second-half equaliser. She then duly hammered home the winning spot-kick in the penalty shootout to seal back-to-back Euros titles for Sarina Wiegman's side.
