Greggs customers were left distraught after the bakery giant appeared to have quietly axed a beloved menu item. The Mexican Chicken Oval Bite, which had been sold by the food chain for years, seems to no longer be available in stores, although it still appears on Greggs' website.
The sandwich, which included salad, chipotle mayo and spiced chicken, was described as a favourite by one Greggs customer who took to social media after realising she could no longer buy it. X user Kim wrote: "My favourite lunch from @GreggsOfficial has been ruined.
"They've replaced my beloved Mexican Chicken Oval Bite with this which now has pineapple chilli sauce and onions."
Another social media user, Chloe, wrote: "Noooo this is devastating. I've been loyal to the Mexican chicken oval bite for years - it got me through everything. And now it's GONE..." She added: "GreggsOfficial why would you do this to me?!"
A third social media user said: "How have I just learnt that @GreggsOfficial have discontinued the Mexican Chicken Oval Bite!??!"
The sandwich referred to by the disappointed Greggs fans appeared to be the Sweet & Spicy Chicken Oval Bite.
The bakery describes it on its website as a meal item "packed with slices of spicy chicken breast, pineapple chilli sauce, sliced mild Cheddar chilli cheese, crispy onions, spicy mayo and mixed leaves in a seeded roll".
This isn't the only spicy item Greggs is currently offering. While the bakery is famous for its sausage rolls, it also sells a Spicy Chicken Pizza, a Chipotle Chicken Flatbread and a Spicy Chipotle Chicken Baguette.
Speaking about the sandwich, a Greggs spokesperson told Newsquest: "The Mexican Chicken Oval Bite is taking a well-deserved rest to make room for our brand-new Sweet & Spicy Chicken Oval Bite which has recently landed in shops."
