Jeremy Clarkson has revealed his latest health concern - and it comes from something as ordinary as breakfast.
Writing in his Sun column on September 12, the Clarkson's Farm presenter explained how the fields near his Oxfordshire home are "carpeted with mushrooms," and admitted he has no idea which are safe to eat.
"There are 15,000 different types of mushroom in the UK and you can eat all of them," he wrote. "But some of them only once. And that's where things get tricky. Because it's nigh on impossible to tell which ones are fatal and which ones are not."
Despite that risk, Clarkson admitted: "So I just chuck them all in a pan at lunchtime and play Russian roulette. So far so goo ..."
The revelation came at the end of a wide-ranging piece that also covered Sir Keir Starmer's appointment of Peter Mandelson, complaints about the cost of the Motability car scheme, and his frustrations at having to collect an NTA for Clarkson's Farm in the middle of a London Tube strike.
Clarkson's musings on mushrooms add to a string of health stories surrounding the 64-year-old in recent years. Recently, the Top Gear host has opened up about his ongoing concerns after being diagnosed with pneumonia in 2017 while on holiday in Majorca.
At the time, he spent almost a week in intensive care, later admitting the illness left him feeling "very, very unwell" and frightened about the future.
More recently, he has spoken candidly about the toll that heavy smoking has taken on his body. Clarkson has previously said he once smoked up to 40 cigarettes a day before quitting, later warning fans of the damage it caused to his lungs.
The Grand Tour star has also written about high blood pressure and the reality of growing older in the public eye. In a past column, he described discovering lumps under his skin, prompting fears of cancer until doctors gave him the all-clear.
