Max Verstappen lifts lid on talks with Toto Wolff and their future plans

has admitted he "corrected a few things" during talks with last year. The Red Bull driver was by the Mercedes chief during the 2024 F1 season as the Silver Arrows looked for a successor to Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen has been a thorn in Mercedes' side since . The Dutchman clinched victory on the final lap of the last Grand Prix of the season to win the Drivers' Championship title for the first time in his career. He has gone on to win every title since, and now has four championship victories to his name.

"I think it was our first real conversation since 2021," Verstappen explained to as he offered an insight into his chat with Wolff. "We corrected a few things from that year."

The 27-year-old added: "We also talked a little bit about the future perspective. But for me it's not just about F1. I do a lot of things with Red Bull.

"Everyone always thinks that decisions about my future are purely based on what's going on here in this world, but I'm working on a lot more. There's more than 'project F1'. That's not something that every team can just offer."

Verstappen is contracted to Red Bull until the end of the 2028 season but reportedly has a number of exit clauses in his current deal.

One such clause would allow the four-time world champion to sever ties with his current employers at the end of this campaign should he find himself outside the top three by the time the summer break arrives.

The blockbuster star is currently third in the standings and possesses a 25-point cushion over fourth-place George Russell.

And he explained to the aforementioned publication: "I always think and have thought about my future, even in the good years. On the other hand, I think I am quite calm about it at the moment.

"I want to see how the rest of the season, or at least part of it, goes. Big, decent steps can be taken by the team. The upcoming races are very important, also for my future.

"I'm not even talking about next year, but in general. I think everyone in the team realises that. You know what the problem is. If you really had a choice and looked purely at performance, you could change teams almost every season. But of course that's not possible.

"I've always said that to the team. That's the intention (to stay). Unless things go really strangely. But that (a departure) is not my intention at the moment."
