As if we don't have enough to worry about with this fragile world in which we all live, there they are, front and centre, Megs and Haz in a blaze of paparazzi flashes and whizbangs. The Big Apple saw these two pitch up for the TIME 100 event, where Megs was due to drop her voluminous pearls of wisdom as a guest speaker. The TIME 100 website states: "The fifth-annual TIME100 Summit will feature leaders from the global TIME community to spotlight solutions and encourage action toward a better world."
Included in the lofty word salad of verbosity is the announcement of "speakers for the daylong event" including "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and founder of As Ever, actor and producer". Bleep me, but that's a mouthful. It remained to be seen, of course, what she had to say, but that seemed to be very much a secondary consideration, since it merely obscured the real objective of promoting Brand Sussex. But ok, let's go with the flow.
What "action" can be galvanized to create a better world? Well, let's take the words of TIME and see if there's any clue there, shall we? Quoting directly from their website: "For 100 years, TIME has told the story of the people and ideas shaping our world. On April 25th [2025] in New York City, TIME will convene leaders from the global TIME100 community to spotlight solutions and encourage action toward a better world as we look ahead to the next century. Our recent speakers have included Apple CEO Tim Cook, Prime Minister Mia Mottley, filmmaker Taika Waititi, athlete Dwyane Wade, producer Mindy Kaling, US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, musician Jon Batiste, and Bill Gates. In collaboration with TIME CO2, the 2023 Summit [will] place[d] special focus on climate action leadership."
Forums like the TIME 100 gathering that certainly do shine a spotlight on any given issue, but they often get hijacked by people like the Sussexes only in attendance to advance their own agenda. They try to gain the moral high ground yet fail miserably in their grossly hypocritical efforts to do so. So, are these summits/symposiums/gatherings a total waste of time? I suppose it depends on how you perceive their purpose.
But judging by the grossly overhyped curtain raiser on this occasion it was certainly a flash in the pan. So, what did all the hoopla serve up? TIME CEO Jessica Sibley asked Meghan to make a confession on stage. "I think the confession for you today, that I could very comfortably say, is I'm the happiest I've ever been," Meghan said. "Of all the things that have happened in my life, I never would have imagined that getting here, at this point, I feel just so happy and grateful. I really do."
Then Megs went on to say that business success is not what primarily makes her happy; it's her family, her partner and husband, Prince Harry, who has been "so supportive," and her two young children Archie, five, and Lilibet, three. She gushed that "Archie is losing his first tooth, and I just hope I'm back in time for it, that's all that matters."
Her goal at this time in her life is to "just have fun," and focus on her family. It's a bit of a gear-change from the Montecito power couple, who were famously outspoken about their trials in Royal Family life, especially since they stopped being working members in 2020 before moving to the United States.
She also mentioned her self-care routine is philanthropy. "My love language is taking care of people," she said, urging audience members to think about ways they can give back to their communities. "It actually energizes you." What the bleep does that mean in English? "Flower sprinkles" also apparently give her an energy boost, talking about how sprinkling pieces of flowers on eggs, salads, yogurt parfait, or on almost anything under the sun to brighten someone's day.
"Take flower sprinkles as an analogy and think about what you could do in your everyday life that can just have a little splash of magic on unexpected moments", she continued. So, there you have it, Possums. Is this really supposed "to spotlight solutions and encourage action toward a better world"? Seriously? A-list wannabes like Megs and Haz dashing about in a blaze of self-aggrandizing stage-managed optics, whimsical use of private jets, and VIP motorcades achieves very little of practical value. For the Sussex clan it's all about brand enhancement, end of!
