Authorities were alerted around 6pm on Monday as Liverpool's citywide bus tour was drawing to an end on Blundell Street by the waterfront. Police have confirmed the arrest of a local 53 year old white British male; the number of those injured remains uncertain at present.

In the aftermath, a significant presence of emergency services was seen across Dale Street, Castle Street, and Water Street, with Liverpool officials keeping in close communication with Merseyside Police.

In light of the developments, the Premier League have announced their awareness and their commitment to collaborate with Liverpool, their newly crowned champions, to offer assistance in any way needed.

Their statement declared: "Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected.", reports the

"The league has reached out to Liverpool FC and pledged its full support following this grave occurrence."

A spokesperson for Liverpool FC noted: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police informed the ECHO: "We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.

"We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday May, 26 following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained.

"Emergency services are presently at the site. We will issue further updates as soon as we can."

Following the event, an air ambulance touched down near the Liver Building, while The Strand has been closed off and train services out of the city centre have been temporarily suspended.

Liverpool kicked off their city-wide celebration at approximately 2:30pm from Allerton, proceeding north towards Childwall Fiveways roundabout, then towards Tuebrook, and entering the centre via Islington, Leeds Street, and The Strand.

A representative from the North West Ambulance Service commented: "NWAS is supporting an incident in Liverpool city centre, following reports of a road traffic collision.

"We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible. Updates will be published on this page and Mersey Police as we know more."
