Balmoral Castle, nestled in the rugged beauty of Aberdeenshire in the Scottish Highlands, was more than just a summer residence for the late Queen Elizabeth II, it was one of her favourite places to be. Balmoral Castle has been a beloved retreat for the Royal Family since it was purchased by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria in 1852.

It was a place the late Queen could trade tiaras for wellies and coats, and ride horses through the hills, and walk her corgis without the media present. "I think Granny is the most happy there," Princess Eugenie said in a 2016 documentary. "I think she really, really loves the Highlands. Walks, picnics, dogs - a lot of dogs, there's always dogs - and people coming in and out all the time.

"It's a lovely base for Granny and Grandpa, for us to come and see them up there, where you just have room to breathe and run."

Royal fans who have visited Balmoral Castle recently have often commented on their understanding of the Queen's favourite place.

One fan wrote on Tripadvisor: "Very special to see Queen Elizabeth's favourite place, and you could understand why she loved it so much because the views were stunning."

Another, in agreement, wrote: "The grounds are amazing and the castle. No wonder Queen Elizabeth enjoyed staying here so much."

Another added: "Balmoral truly is beautiful and one may understand better why the Queen loved this family's private residence fondly. It is a huge area and due to time, I couldn't cover all the grounds."

Former Labour Prime Minister, Tony Blair, who served as the Labour leader during her reign, once noted that while the Queen was always gracious and professional, she seemed most relaxed and at home in Balmoral.

Family members, friends, and even visiting dignitaries often remarked on the joy and serenity the Queen found there.

In a poignant full circle, Queen Elizabeth II spent her final days at Balmoral. She passed away there on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.

Today, Balmoral stands not only as a royal estate but as a symbol of Queen Elizabeth II's enduring legacy but a place that reflects her deep love for Scotland.

A testament to nature's beauty and human artistry, Balmoral's gardens are meticulously maintained by a resolute team of seven expert gardeners who tend to 45 acres of lush grounds across the gardens and golf course.

Balmoral has been the cherished home of the Royal Family since 1852.
