According to the Energy Saving Trust, turning down the flow temperature of your boiler can improve its efficiency by around 4-5%. This, in turn, can save you money, but how much depends on a number of factors.
"How much you'll save will depend on several factors including: What your boiler was set to before. Whether your home was too warm before. How much you're prepared to experiment with your boiler's flow temperature," the website said.
However, experts at the Trust warned you should be careful when changing the flow temperature of your boiler.
Risks can include not being able to heat up certain rooms or even your whole house sufficiently, which, if this becomes a chronic issue, could be dangerous for elderly residents.
"Turning the boiler thermostat below 65 degrees on a conventional boiler (with a hot water cylinder) can increase the risk of legionella bacteria growing in the cylinder, which is dangerous," the Energy Saving Trust continued.
They also urged you to make sure you didn't accidentally change the wrong settings on your boiler.
